So having dabbled with the spray cans on a pair of crappy old cranks a month or two ago, I thought I'd have a look for something more appropriate for my project virgin build, when I stumbled across these:

So after a rub-down in W+D for a decent key
(the surfaces were prety much gouge-free 8) ) I set about applying 4 or 5 coats of grey primer, just giving the smallest/gentlest of rub-downs in between coats, to get a good 'all-over' coverage.

A few days later (After the wind and rain had calmed down) the sun came out, so I got to work on applying the white paint, really thin coats to start with, trying to build up the layers, and allowing a decent amount of time between coats. 10 or maybe even more  coats later, I had a good all-over finish, in white, which I was very happy with, so gave them a half-hour low-bake, just to try and harden the paint a little, prior to lacquer.

Next day, the sun was out again, so I applied maybe 5 or even more coats of clear lacquer, and once I was sure the final coat was hard enough, I gave them another half hour low bake...

Today, the decals hav turned up, and I have applies 4 or 5 more coats of lacquer to seal it all in....................... and here ar the results....--> :D 8) 8) 8)

Cheers guys, :D

I forgot to mention that I'll be applying Helicopter tape to the areas most likely to rub, and luckily I have the top picture for reference as to where that might be

Looking great! Have you tried fitting chainrings yet?

I spent about a fortnight spraying a pair of Judy DH fork lowers for a bike I was building late last year. I was lucky to have a spray booth at work to work in after hours. I must have put ten coats of green paint on them, along with three coats of lacquer. Didn't use them in the end, so they went into storage. When we moved flats in February, my girlfriend dropped them in the garage, chipping them right back to the metal in two spots. I could have died. She pointed at the green paint can next to them and asked if couldn't just "fill it in?"

Wow, incredible work! :o

So based on that top picture I guess you'll need to completely wrap each arm with the tape?
