The Delta Force Monostay (DFM) is an investment cast aluminum monostay with integrated cable stops and pump peg. Miyata designed it for its second generation bonded and bolted frames. With the DFM Miyata achieved weight saving compared to the earlier construction, while the setup offered very good torsional rigidity.

The seatstays were bonded to the monostay, the monostay sat bolted to the seatlug. The backside was open, but a plate was screwed on to avoid the accumulation of mud. In fact the monostay was hollow.

Softail

An unique variation is were a damper unit sat attached. This could be seen on Herbold's bikes and some bikes in the pre production stage for the 95MY, but it never reached the market. With this softail design a link was placed between seatlug and DFM and an elastomer sat hidden in the open space on the backside of the monostay. With some frames an oil cartridge was added to take care of the damping.
