Calling all Specialized Ultimate owners !

May 2nd, 2006

First, some history. The S Works bike from Specialized were to represent the absolute state of the art without regard to price. The ultimate frameset retailed for about $3,800 and Specialized claimed to just break even on the frames. There was a planned run of 170 or less frames for 1992. Merlin made the titanium lug set for the frame, at an approximate cost of $1,700-$1,800 per set, and a team of five builders at Specialized hand assembled them into frames.

If anyone out there owns a specialized ultimate one of our retrobike veterans is setting up a resource dedicated to them. Post up your interest on this thread.

Hi Ya, I have a couple of epic ultimates. One 94 and one 95 Ned Overend final edition (number 13 of 60) with the plaque on the top tube. One is built ultra light with carbon and ti. Under 8 kg and dropping. The other is just a frameset at this stage but i’m collecting parts for a build like Neds.

I own a 1992 Specialized S-Works Ultimate w/ the original White Industries Ti BB, Dean Ti seat-post (27.2mm… I think?). Its in great aesthetic condition, with only light surface scratching on the underside of the down tube and stays; perfect structurally. If any interest in purchase still exists, I am looking to sell.

    Correction to previous post:
    1. original Specialized Ti BB,
    —not White Industries—

Although I heard they were involved with production, I have no evidence and welcome any comment on the matter.

    2. There are additional areas of surface damage, ranging from superficial to minor

    3. additional components include Shimano XTR crankset w/ spuds, Answer A-Tac Zero Degree rise stem, and hyperlite handlebar, L-R XTR Brake Lever/Trigger Shifters, Flite Ti seat
