What a brilliant turn out, 22 riders in all. We had some special guests at our ride. Andy Waterman and Geoff Waugh from MBR magazine. They were interviewing RB members and taking photos of our bikes for a future article.
There was much fannying around taking photos before the bikes and riders got dirty. Rider were interviewed by Andy while Geoff took the pictures. Some riders went proper retro with flouro clothing.
Eventually we set off into the forest. We set out on the Brandon side of the forest, taking in the some of the sweet swoopy singletrack. The trails were dry with plenty of grip for railing the berms. Heading back to the cafe for lunch to refuel and catch up with Andy & Geoff who would then join us for the afternoon ride.
Over cake, coffee, tea and conversation the votes for the BOTR were taken. It was a close call but the winner was a very deserving jonnyboy666 with his, yet to be revealed, Orange Elite SE. Second place went to Jango with his Nuke Proof Reactor.
After lunch we headed over to the road to High Lodge side of the forest. The weather by now was a mixture of snow, sleet, hail and rain. We took the excellent trail down to the bottom of The Beast then picked up the Black Route and followed it round to the D2d route. Several runs of The Beast, Double Shocker and MX Trail with all combinations in the mix brought big smiles to our faces. The weather by now was turning to rain so we started to make our way back to the cafe. Geoff finished off taking some photos of dirty bikes after the ride..
A brilliant day. Big thank you to John for coming and a special mention to jonnyboy666 for making the long journey to see us. Also thanks to Andy & Geoff for making our meet so special. Last but not least a big thankyou to all the RB members who turned up.

Another really enjoyable retrobike meet - great to meet some new faces as well as catching up with the usual suspects of the East Anglian retrobike Massive.
Regreting scoffing that pizza now after seeing Rekiborter pics.... and least the ballast keep those tyres dug in!!
Didn't take many pics this time .... the one's I did must have been taken at the same time.
Cheers,

dragged my bum out of bed at 6am this morning to get to the ride for 1030am, crappy nights sleep as i'd just come off nights previousley, jumped in the preloaded car from the night before, couldn't decide which bike to bring so i took the E3 and the newly finished Elite, 2 bikes for good measure!!
got into the carpark and immediatley started spotting fellow retrobikers, awsome
was told that pics and interview was overthere by those trees etc, i freely admit i love all that silliness so was over there poncing my Elite, everybody seemed to like it so i chose to ride that first after having my pic taken, this time next month i could be celeb!
great ride as expected, just the right amount of speed/stopping/socialising etc
then there was cake for lunch :Dthen i won the "bike of the ride" quite unexpected, i like the Elite but was suprised it got 6 votes as the winner
then a bike swap for me, brought 2 so might aswel get them both dirty!!
then came the drive home, redbull, jake and elwood got me home!!
thanks to chris, dan and mark, quality ride, turn out and effort that we have come to expect
here's some pics from the day _________________ You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something in your life. |
