first thing, sorry there is not more retro bikes, the idea for the ride was retro to start with but only a few were interested from this site so i invited some friends who ride generally aswel, so hope it doesn't offend anyone, the way i see it was it's a bunch of guys having a laugh! :D

and if this isn't the best place to have this thread, mods feel free to move it into the appropriate section, thanks :)

anyhoo! we all met up at the lymington ferry car park about 10am, handshakes aplenty and the banter started, everyone was looking forward to a good ride and the weather was looking good, get on the ferry and hit munchies and tea! talking plenty of rubbish while we were at it! :D off the ferry after wightlink bloke takes our pic. onto the start of the coastal trail and pick up the trails to the viewpoint at hurst castle, carry on, little bit of road and up onto headon warren, singletrack bits of silliness followed by a slightly dodgy descent(that some walked, shame on you! pics of those will proove it later!) carry on to alum bay and to the needles viewpoint, some silliness happened and more talking of rubbish, wives, girlfriends, bikes, riding and porn! not in any particular order there by the way! carry on up to the top of the hill and heathy starts talking war stories after insulting the gnome lady(ask him! )carried on towards freshwater bay after a potentially dodgy descent and up on to the golf course, rode over the course and down a chalky wet descent, rigid and canti's, scary! mud plugged our way up the next climb, we were starting to feel the pace/miles, 2 more climbs and descents and we stop at the crown inn for munchies, soup and chip butties!! yum yum! :D realising how late we have run we decide to nail it back to the ferry by road, tired legs and lack of light looming! we get to the ferry just before darkness sets, cool ride 8) everyone seems tired but happy, 29miles in the bag apparently! not bad at all i think!

some good friends made 8)

quote of the day, "you can't climb on cheese" there were more but i can't remember them!

pics to follow, i'll post a few good ones on here and do a link for the whole lot to facebook. but that won't be for a while yet, roast dinner is waiting!! :D

Firstly, a massive thankyou to Jonnyboy for sorting out this ride.
I had a cracking time and am so glad I dragged myself out of bed when I really didn't feel up to it.
We set-off on the IOW in very frosty conditions. The first few miles were pretty flat and didn't hint towards the leg-ache to come!
I managed to bin-it within the first 20 mins when I hit some black ice (I had forgotten all about it until I got into the bath when I got home!).
So there I am, the new boy, and I've already made myself look stupid
There were a few comments towards the fact I was the only one without a helmet, but I'm not kitted out yet so had to take the risk.
We then started to climb up towards the cliff-tops and the ride got going in anger.
Jonny then told us of the next section where there were a few drop-offs. Most of the lads managed this ok but I really didn't fancy the last bit with my very dodgy STX cantis
We ended up at one of the many old fortifications and thats where the war stories started :D
It was then onwards (and upwards again!) until we stopped at the Tenyson monument. It was this climb that really started to test my out of condition legs.
After a short rest, we had a nice roll down-hill for a while and we were then told we only had a short gravel climb and then some flat stuff until we reached the pub
About 90 mins later we arrived!
A short grub stop and then a 9 mile road run back to the ferry.
After about 5 of these miles, my legs and feet started to freeze so I made a dash for the ferry. This caused a bit of a break-away group (sorry lads, but I was fookin freezing!).
It was great to meet some people from the site today. Real top blokes who made me feel very welcome.
I haven't had a ride like that since I was 17 (and it showed!) and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Learnt a few valuable lessons.
1. Never ever climb on cheese (although I did eat mini chedders at the pub and made it back tothe ferry first  ).
2. Buy some bloody kit! No helmet, shorts with ankle socks and thin trainers don't cut it!
3. My brakes aren't just crap and badly set up. They are in fact dangerous!.

Anyhow, heres a few pics from my phone :D

Great ride chaps! Again really glad i came considering the -6.5 deg drive down.
I had a right laugh today, with new and old faces  And to think when i asked Gus last night what the terrain was like, he said flat
There's some proper hills over there, so much so my upper legs are in pain now
