I have got a GT '3D' fork which has a dent in the top in the middle of where the stem would clamp onto it. The dent goes in about 1.5mm

There is also some gouging (<0.1mm) all the way around as if someone has tried to fit a stem that was too tight, or instead has tried to remove the old stem after it was dented. Also, the tube section at the top is not smoothly circular.

I was wondering if this is fixable, perhaps by ramming a correctly sized tube inside it (of aluminium and then dissolving it). However I understand that threadless systems are supposed to be precise in how they fit together so the material that has been lost could prove catastrophic.

Pictures will be added later if you need to have a closer look.

GT 3D forks didn't come in threadless, so maybe you have a different GT fork?

Or if it has a threadless steerer it's been modified at some point...?
