Feel free to enter your bike for rBOTM August 8)

Announcement: Due to computer issues I haven't been able to set up the poll in time, so my idea is to merge August with September. You have another 10-15 days to enter. Thank you.

Done, removed two photos...

Not much of a story really...
It's been in the family since 1986, when my dad bought it second hand for 700,000 italian Lire (around 300 pounds of the time)... as new it was 2 million...
It's been resprayed in 2011, ahead of being registered in the Eroica repository of vintage bikes (only Sannino). Same red colour and same decals.
It's Columbus SL, or at least so I think, as Mauro Sannino told me he built most of his frames in SL (yes, he is my friend on Facebook!).
All the parts are SR, with a few pantographed bits (Chainring and seatpost are AB, which is Angelo Boeris), the stem is pantographed Sannino.
I have recently rebuilt the wheels using Ambrosio Nemesis tubulars, to put a bit of life back in the bike, as I still use it as best/fast bike... it climbs Box Hill in under 7 minutes.
It's done the Eroica three times, the Anjou Velo Vintage once and the Retroronde once.
It's also been up a few Italian cols and climbs.
I normally run Vittoria EVO CX because they are fast and lively, occasionally use 27 mm Pave for the kasseien

This is my (topical) entry for August:
Pettenella Olympic special.
Vanni Pettenella was the last Italian to win an Olympic Gold in the track event in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics following a 25 minute track-stand battle of nerves ...
he retired in 69 and open a frame shop where he made specialist road and track bikes.
This is all original from early 1980s: features mostly Ofmega group of panto'd crank, master hubset, strada pedals, headset. Universal brakeset,
Campagnolo deralleurs ( Gian Robert rear ) 3T stem bars and seatpost.

All very nice! I'm an old-school Peugeot man myself, but I do like a Raleigh, particularly if its 531 Pro tubing!!

It has that Freddy Maertens look... it really looks like the Flandria bike...

Well, if we're going to have red and white Flandria lookalikes this month - here's mine!

Not absolutely sure of the frame's parentage (possibly Bernard Macklam from Leeds although the frame was originally obtained by a friend from Hargreaves in Dewsbury) sprayed by Chris Marshall with home-made vinyl decals to give the 'Freddy Maertens flavour'. Bit of a mixed bag of fittings period-wise but still with the 'classic' touch.

I've raced a couple of 10's on it - but nothing to shout about the performance of the rider - the bike's OK though

Licinio Marastoni built this frame in 1972. If you look closely, you will see that it had a full set of braze-ons, including: rear brake cable top tube guides, bottle bosses, gear cable housing bosses throughout, pump pip, shift levers and perhaps the most impressive when the year is taken into account: the brake centre bolts (the centre bolts are in fact brazed onto the fork crown in the front and on the brake bridge in the back, there is no holes drilled for fitting of the brakes)

Well why not...

No story here, just picked this up last Wednesday from our local recycling centre and had it finished in time for an RB mini meet on Saturday. It rides great!

Wow, a bike with mudguards. Gets my vote.
Bet those tyres are 27 x 1-1/4. Those 80's bikes were mostly fitted with 27 x 1-1/8 and the larger tyres just don't have enough clearance for my liking.

Ian.

Spooky: I was drooling over this very bike in the thread you posted about the build (I was looking for info on Olagnero's and the search picked up your signature).

August is shaping up to be a "vintage" month...
