There is a huge amount of great riding up here, just take a quick look at a relief map if you are in doubt.

The main thing is how much open land we have, free of the restriction of fence or hedge.

I have met big time mountain bike fanatics who live in London and have been all over the world but never taken even a weekend in the Highlands.

Just like surfing, if you are UK based, you HAVE to earn your stripes with a trip to the not so frozen north!

:)

Just checking in with the Macretro crowd as I'm due to move up to the area around Forres in the next month or two :)
Looking forward to getting used to some new trails, not so looking forward to fitting ski's to the bike for winter

I am nearly ride worthy again, so the wife says.

Have you guys checked out the hills out south of Farr? Some of my favourite riding.

Perhaps get some winter rides sorted.

There are loads of Farrs, much more than Nears which is odd.

Loads of 'undeveloped' trails with some great hills and stunning views.

I have done convoluted quasi scrambling/carrying routes over to the Corrieyairack way back in the day, but this wee loop is pretty nice, if you take the suggestion of the Garbole/Farr road.

Ok it's not hugely up North but we've got a ride going from Arbroath tomorrow, meeting 10am at the harbour. Only expecting a small turnout considering its Easter Sunday, but everyone's welcome.

Don't know if we'll get any interest, but hopefully get some new faces.
The other thread has turned a bit into the East Neuk rides thread!

It would be good to get some more people interested in coming up this way. Maybe not as far up as myself but even further north than the clan usually travel.
Even a get together for those of us actually in the highlands. I had a great ride out on Friday afternoon around Strathpeffer/Garve area. Lots of great hidden trails all over the highlands.

There are quite a few folk on our books from Aberdeen northward whom are never seen. You northern lot should get your own local riding group like our east coast riders or the Westies midweek Mountains.
