Finally landed a set of F7's for my P7 after a couple of months 'fruitless' (boom!) searching.

They've been resprayed a "midnight blue-ish" but are nickel underneath (to match my frame) - can the forks be stripped without damaging the nickel plating? Would nitromors do the job do you think?

If the nickel is damaged can they be re-done in a similar silver effect to match the frame?

If not, would powdercoating black be a good idea, to contrast the bike etc?

Any input muchos appreciated...

Cheers,

Matty

Paint remover dont leave it on long, just enough to soften the paint and scrub off, done it before successfully.
I am after a pair of those, off ebay? - just as well I did not bid and get into a bid war

try heating it (hair dryer / hot air gun) & then gentle teasing with a stanley knife blade / green pan scrubber. work in small sections & hopefully the paint will be cheap stuff that starts to soften & easily lifts off.

if the paint is a bit more stubborn, i'd be tempted to try nitromors but be prepared that they may have been sprayed in the first place because the plating was on its way out.

if the nickel is buggered, i would opt for a black powder (probably gloss) to offset the frame. I don't think there are any frame colours that black wouldn't sit well against.

Slight update, the forks are now at C&G Finishes in Liverpool (every scouser on this forum will know this place..!) and they're being resprayed in Gloss Black.

It would have been too tricky and expensive to get them replated and they could not be 'painted' to match the shiny nickel finish - the nearest colour was 'titanium' which has a golden-style tinge to it and it just wouldn't have looked right....

Decided to have the stem resprayed the same as the forks as it would blend a lot better to have the 'collar and cuffs' (pfnaaar) matching.

Bit of a dilemma now, any thoughts on the following, given that it's a silver frame, black forks and black stem (seatpost is silver as well):

**Silver or black handlebar? (Currently got a silver Orange Hot Rod but could easily get that respayed black too)

**Silver or black rims? (mavic XM317s on silver XT hubs)

**Silver, black or blue finishing touches? (QR's, seat clamp, bottle bosses etc)

I've got one chance to get it right!! :D

My P7 build is (was) going to be white frame, black RC31's and black pace stem. I say was, because I'be now realised that the black RC50 bar I've got is going to make the front end look very black, and I'm not sure. I'm doing blue highlights, red might look cool on a silver/black build though.

Nickel frame with silver bars would look really good.

Any pics of yours?

There won't be any red on this Evertonian's bike whatsoever...

silver frame
silver headset
black fork
black stem
silver bar
silver hubs
black rims
black qr's
coloured ano to match decals.

if your throwing orange decals on it why not try and get orange chainring, bottle & crank bolts? failing that i'd keep everything along the polished / black route & go for black ano bottle bolts for a slightly more monochrome look to the build!

another option worth thinking about would be a gold headset & gold ano bits to highlight where needed.

Thanks jax, favouring just black/silver now (bit boring, but....)

The "Hot Rod" handlebar is not shiny silver either, has a more duller tinge to it so was thinking about respaying that black or even get another silver bar?

The orange Orange decals should stand out nicely though on a black/silver mix (in my minds eye anyway!)

:D

Fair play on the red... I'm a Brighton fan so blue and white makes perfect sense for my build :)

My bike is a pile of bits at the moment, having a "what colour frame" dilemma! I wanted brit kit so a Pace stem is mandatory, but not sure anymore... perhaps a blue RC50...
