Hi folks,

Up for sale is my 20” 1993 titanium/porsche green Kona Explosif in complete catalogue spec (see text above catalogue pic). Excellent, mintish condition, bought last fall off original owner who had almost never taken it off road(!). Almost no scratches, one miniscule dent in the top tube, barely visible. Some superficial chain-suck.

Rides really, really nicely, great spring in the prestige tubes. Seat tube 20” (50,8 cm) c-t and top tube 23-23,5" (59,5 cm) c-c. Top tube is actually same length as a sus corrected 1994 onwards 19" Kona, so you don't need to be very tall for this bike. I'm a little under 6'2" (187 cm), and it suits me great, although I think everything from 5'11" to 6'3" would be good. A shorter 130 mm Velocity stem will also come along.

Asking £420 shipped(!) to the UK, insured and well packed (was £480). The bike really is in immaculate condition.

Specs:

Frame: 20” (c-t) custom Tange Prestige tube-set, Ultimate Ultralight top/down, externally-fluted 'oversize' down tube, externally oval-butted seat tube, Concept seat tube/stays (same tube mix as the 1992 Kona Hot)

Fork: P2 triple butted, 395 mm a-c (non suspension corrected)

Headset: Impact, 1 1/8”
Stem: Velocity, 150 mm
Handlebar: Kona Race lite 165
Grips: Kona Race lite

Brakes: Dia-Compe 987
Brake Pads: Dia-Compe 987
Brake Levers: Ritchey logic

Shifters: Deore XT M735 thumb shifters
Front Derailleur: Deore XT M735
Rear Derailleur: XTR M900
Cassette: XTR M900
Cranks: Sugino Mighty XP
Chainrings: Sugino Mighty

Bottom Bracket: Shimano
Pedals: Kona

Hubs: XTR M900 back, XT M735 front
Hub Skewers: M900, Deore XT
Rims: Mavic 231, silver anodized

Tyres: A:/drive front, B:/drive rear, kevlar bead (Ritchey Z-Max in the pics!)

Saddle: Kona Race lite, hollow cro-mo rails
Seatpost: Kona Race lite alu 27.0 mm
Seatpost Binder: Kona

Weight: 10,7 kg /23,8 pounds (measured on Park Tool scales)

Pics:

(This pic is from the 1993 USA -catalogue, and the Explosif could be had with both a rigid and a suspension fork, both would be 'catalogue spec')

I don't think so Jan, it looks very mint and has a very original component group 8) . Actually this frame would suit me a lot better than the other one you sold me :?

Thanks Jakob, I too think it's a pretty resonable price, but I may be wrong..

Wow. I've had fun to spot difference between catalogue example. Even better than catalogue with rigid forks. Someone will be happy.

You could choose between a rigid P2 and a suspension fork when buying an Explosif in 1993, so both rigid/sus fork are actually catalogue spec. The pic above is from the US Kona catalogue, in Europe/UK I think the '93 bikes were all with rigid P2's by default, although I must look it up to be sure. I guess it would be more correct to post the Europe catalogue pic, but the 93 Konas were two-coloured, and mine is what is known as the world-coloured, titanium green one.

:)
