Today Peter Post died at age 77.

Post made it to successfull professional on both road and in 6-day races. Later he became team manager of the TI Raleigh and Panasonic teams. He contributed substantially to the professionalizing of the sport.

Sad news, top rider in his day. He was 'The Boss' in the 6-Day events. He didn't accept any nonsense either when he was Raleigh team boss - ask some of the British Raleigh pro's who went to the continent when the team expanded.

I only saw him once, at the Skol 6-Day at Wembley when he was 'beaten' by Alf Engers in an exhibition pursuit match. Alf wore a silver jersey that looked as if it was made from aluminium Bakofoil.

Dutch broadcast making mention of that he wun no less than 65 6-day races. He wun Paris-Roubaix with an average that still stands today as fastest ever.

And here he is doing it!

Excellent shots of the stars of the day as well as Post himself - Van Looy, Anquetil, Stablinski, Melkenbeek. Just look at the classic jerseys as well.

good film clip Ned. Interesting to note how low the riders sat. These days the lags are far more outstretched.

Yes, great movie. On that location more nice cycling-related movies, but all Dutch spoken.

For example this one >>
