back in the summer of 1992 I decided to buy myself a GT Avalanche, I was 17 and my Emmelle Cortina was just not up to the job.

fast forward to earlier this year and whilst in the for sale forum/ebay plug I found this frame, forks, and stem. I just had to reacquaint myself and build a GT like my original.

I dug out my front canti hanger out of my spares box, and called my old Uni mate Neil to check he had my old wheels which I had taken off my original GT BITD. He did and I bought them back.

I took the bike out in Grizedale for the 3 man RetroBike ride and apart from the constant pinch flats it rode really well (see Paul's snap below).

Everytime I think about replacing my Avalanche... I see a bike like this and start to think about keeping it again.

Love the finish on that, really nice paint job for a cracking bike.

The steel Avalanche was one of my dreambikes in the beginning of 90's.. Probably because of the paintjob and all the features of the frame which made it individual.

Lovely bike, i remember being 15 years old and wanting one very badly
(but never done enough paper routes to be able to afford one).

One of my faves from GT. One of the best years, one of the best colour schemes.

Thanks, I used to drool over the Zaskars BITD, but a lot got the oven clener treatment and a polish when the fashion changed.

Thanks for all the feedback and the pics from Paul.

Should I put blue alu nipples on the spokes but stop there with the blue just to take some colour to the rims? I could even do alternate ones in blue.
