Guys, check these out. I'd appreciate all comments and feedback....

'88/89 Cindercone TBG,

'89 Explosive TBG

Big thanks to both Joe Murray and Paul Brodie for the work they did in the early days for the TBG. Without their input, would we have seen sloping top tubes and project 2 forks and this style on our shores quite so early??????

Perhaps I'm getting old???!!!

Back in the day, before Kona's headbadges were used, the bikes were made by the Bicycle Group (the TBG). Joe Murray was the chief designer and Paul Brodie was a custom frame builder. On the first catalogue for the UK launch of the bikes, it was an A5 brochure which had Kona's on one side and Brodie on the other. My ultimate goal was to own a Brodie but sadly I could never afford one at the time.

As I understand it, the Kona's (TBG) were manufactured in Taiwan and the Brodie's at this time in history, were hand built frames.

I have attached the two pictures of the catalogue from the 1990 2nd edition.

ps. sorry about the amount of pics, too many fond memories and good times

Dude that rocks, you know which one i love the best though. Since you didn't let me ride either down the Citadel i will always sat that my A/Star is the coolest. E-stays are the future.

Never heard of TBG! The original brand of 'The Bycycle Group'.

This has spurred me on to get the Star finished, but i just need some stickers to complete it.......any idea where i can get some! Forks to be re-lacqured, bar and stem to be glitter lacqured, oh i like my glitter! (not Gary)

The other A/Star is next on the re-build list, i have almost collected together a full LX kit, almost.

The MS will have to hold for a bit, i think i will strip it down and collect parts, it will take alot of parts.

The Rockhopper will be re-done next year maybe.

Lovin it...........ride on.

Maverick.....Dude, if you wanted to ride either of them, you should have just said! What's mine is yours (in a non married sense!), we go back a long way Maverick!!

If you ever need any help with parts etc, you know what I mean, just shout big man.

As for the TBG, sadly I suspect the information I have posted is very little known to all the dudes that ride slightly later model Kona's - or is it that I'm just the oldest dude on this site...?!!!! Pray its not the latter!

Keep it real big man.....2 fingers to the establishment, speed cameras and false promising politicians, stay away from crooked banks and why dont they bring those red telephones back??? Many a puncture and thank god for that telephone box and the shelter we all took in them! lol

Leave your stickers to me.....The Sinnerman is on the case..!

Thanks mate. Lighthouse is on Plymouth Hoe. Back in the day, great street riding at night and yet we always stayed out until way past our bedtime!
