Your best time on a bike

Best time, riding around what I call my 'so cal' loop on the qauntocks (wide dusty fire road that loops around the valley) with the sun on my back on the Pace a couple of months ago.

IT WAS IN AUTUMN
JUST BEFORE A TECHNICAL CLIMB I ONLY CLEARED MAYBE THREE TIMES SINCE I RIDE
THE WIND BLOWS
THE SUN SHINES THROUGH THE NEARLY NAKED TREES
THE LEAVES FALL LIKE SNOW
I DON'T REMEMBER THE BIKE I WAS ON, I DON'T REMEMBER IF I CLEARED THE SECTION THIS VERY DAY,
I THOUGHT THEN, I WILL REMEMBER THIS MOMENT FOR ALL MY LIFE , I WAS RIGHT.

Must have been summer/autumn of 1992.

Lived in Manchester doing a teacher training course after my degree and rode 3 times a week....

Ended up so fit that I considered the off-road route from Stockport to my parents place in Barnsley via the Dark Peak - about 50 miles of off-roading....

And I did it, after a beautiful Rusholme Curry... - can't remember the exact route but it took in Hayfield, Jacobs Ladder, Mam Tor, Edale, Hope, and Ladybower.

I think it took me 5 hours.... On a fully rigid bike (RC30s!!) with 1.5" hardpacks, and I did all the descents, ON the bike.

These days, I wouldn't even get halfway!
