Oh dear! It's finally reared It's ugly, bland, corporate, price fixing, market distorting, black mailing (Giant) but oh so functional head!

That's without me having a go at their fishing S*** :(

Shi*mano has never and will never be cool.

I will agree they did used to make a complete groupset back in the day. Then Dia-Compe came along with A-head system. Poor old Shimano!! Not made a complete groupset for many years.

BITD when i was a lad, and the world was very young, Shimano was the thing to have. Campag was V expensive, not much Suntour or Huret about. If you wanted light, and not Raleigh/ OEM it was Shimano that you went for. It was cool then.....

Dave

Well Dave, It's a good job we didn't all go for Shimano, otherwise this forum would be a very boring place indeed!!

I can't believe that anyone into this 'scene' would find a company that has eroded Individuality within our hoby as cool.

It's a funny old world innit?

Once again in a cool wall thread, I propose my argument that nothing that only geeks (in this sense, people who obsess too much about their chosen subject matter) think is cool, can be cool to anyone other than their peers.

Shimano have a wider audience, of which some elements are pretty cool.

Awwww.... :D

Shimano are a bit like a car company like Ford, huge and effective, but every now and then they turn out a Cossie or an Escort Mexico.

I wonder how many people moaning about them being giant and faceless, unethical etc are typing their post on a computer running a Microsoft OS?

Lots of us; but we do so because the OS and platform are cheap and effective, not because they are cool.

Totally agree with the Cossie/Mexico analogy: but for every cool gem there are about 100 dull, functional and restrictive products. Overall, the brand ain't cool.
