To me that looks like a modern "budget" dual-suspension MTB, I highly doubt it's a genuine GT, and it's certainly not a Zaskar.

In fact it looks suspiciously similar to this frame....

If it were me I'd walk away, there's plenty of better bikes out there for £200.
My Proflex cost that amount, and although it's 13years old it's still way way better than the bike you linked to.

Keep looking, do some research and reading, you can get a far better bike for the money.

Tedc- surgested a Hybrid frame or something? any ideas on the actually frame/mid suspention from the new pictures.

That was based purely on the now clearly false statement in the first gumtree ad that it had RockShox Ruby forks.

As others have said, it's not worth anything like what is being asked. It's a bad buy at £1/kg, and an even worse one at £4/kg.

Firstly welcome

Can I offer some advice to run alongside your enthusiasm?

Your all over the place, unsure of what you want and seemingly unsure of what it is you maybe buying.

Could I suggest that you have a shortlist of bikes you definitely want, narrow it down to about 3 or 4, then use the search to research about those bikes, then keep an eye out on the for sale boards.

You will find what you want, from people who value the retro scene and I am pretty sure you won't be disappointed

Don't be too concerned about the forks, it's the frame and the whole package you want to be considering.

A quick Google search showed that those forks have 63mm of travel, possibly with pre-load adjustment, which would place them as budget suspension forks.

Is the Bike a Claud Butler by any chance??? (they do make some good bikes by the way)

There's nothing wrong with a budget mountainbike as long as you accept it for what it is, cheap, heavy, relatively low tech suspension, and suitable for pootling to work/the pub or down canal towpaths.
If that's the sort of riding you'll be doing then fine.

If you intend on doing any "proper" offroading (ie bridleways, farm tracks, riding in the woods or something more adventurous) then I think you really need to steer clear of the generic budget mountainbikes as they will not serve you well.
Instead look at bikes from the major MTB manufacturers and for a new one expect to pay a minimum of say £200-300 for a decent reliable "proper" mountainbike.
A used bike of say a year or two old (or even one of last seasons old stock discounted bikes) for the same money will get you en even better bike.

Of course as this is the Retrobike forum there are plenty of retrobikes for sale here, and plenty of retrobikers to persuede you to consider one ; although they may be older bikes they are still pretty light, well specced, reliable, and don't cost the earth (mainly)
. Some of them may not have the kudos of full suspension or disc brakes, but realistically do you really need all of that just to pop down the shops or whatever?

No pics up on gumtree, id NEVER buy a bike for any dosh if it says its a Zaskar, because there is 90% chance it wont be one, and defo wouldnt buy a bike withouit pics.
Just forget it and advertise on here for 1, but bare in mind £500 is cheap for a PROPER Zaskar

Harry you could get a very nice basic retrobike for that sort of money, but I think you want a semi decent modern bike.

You need to work out what size bike you need and roughly what you want to do on it, try some in a local shop to get a feel for what you want.

You get more for your money second hand might be more to the point. You could get something modern that's better than that Hardrock for the money.

Harry, I don't want to sound like a patronising t**t (but I'm going to anyway...), but maybe learn a bit about bikes before you go buying one. That way, you'll know what you're looking at and won't get burned. As the Gumtree ad proves, jumping on the first thing that says GT on it or trusting the seller when they say it's worth £1800 won't necessarily get you value for money.
