In the Trimble - a very odd BB. Not sure what it is. Doesnt look expensive. Definitly a cartridge type.

I want it out to replace with a wider model.

Its not a Shimano BB for sure as my 2 tools don't fit it. It looks like a similar tooth pattern on each cup though. It doesnt look like its very expensive either.

What could it be?

A picture or two would help the forum solve this problem (i hope)

I have a few different but same BB tools Jez - think three internal spline designs now, two external bearing designs. I will dig them out if you want to try them, some used just once to remove a BB, but what else to do?

Sodding 'standards'

Ok people - thank you for your help so far.

Here's a pic of the culprit. Notice how it sneers in contempt at the camera.

Are you using a genuine Shimano tool, or not, we have Shimano, Tacx and Raceface, All fit slightly better than each other.... if you see what I mean??
Also have you tried bolting your tool on (ooer missus!), sometimes it will push the splines together tighter.

Does it have that same type of cup on the other side? In other words a cup without a flange like a typical fixed cup? If there is no flange on the fixed cup, it could be a Phil Wood bottom bracket.
