Could anyone confirm whether mid 90's Campag brake/gear shifters would work with cantilever brakes?

I want to use them on a Cyclocross build :D

I can't see any reason why they won't?

Although I've never used campagnolo on my own cyclecross bike, I've seen this very often. Should work fine. As far as I know, all older racing bike levers (pre dual pivot) should work fine with cantis.

what do you mean by 'dual pivot'?

sorry if it's a silly question, I am still learning the ways of the road bike!!

your brifters will be fine

dual pivot:

single pivot

thanks Mr big cheese!....and Reinster!

They came with the single pivot brakes, so they will work then

:D

Your Falcon is looking good too mate.....you sometimes trump my finds!!

Ergos are fine for canti brakes - there are two main types of cantilever brake. The 'low profile' design as mentioned, such as Tekro Oryx:

Secondly, the more traditional wide-stance design such as TRP Euro-X:

The former are easier to set-up, particularly due to the vee-brake pad design which offers more adjustment and generally offers more braking power. Their disadvantage, particularly for cross is lack of mud clearance.

A good compromise is something like the following - they have the advantage of the easier to adjust brake pad, with the wide-stance clearance:

(Other makes of brake are available - just using these as examples!)

Thanks very much for that......it will be used off road, but not for racing....yet!!

I had a Kona Jake before, but the aluminium frame did my back and knee in......I couldn't get on with it at all, so this time I am going to be building a custom (to me) set up, rather than an off the peg.

I loved that Kona and so wanted it to work for me.......I think it was always a bit small too

Campag brake levers work better with low-pro cantis than Shimano IMHO.

So what are they?
Any make I should look out for?

Make to look out for is Campag.... I was surprised to see this question in a thread you started asking about Campag Ergos

Am presuming you mean the range/groupset, not the make.

Mid 90s.... avoid anything lower than Veloce where it goes a bit plasticky. Pref. Athena up.....
