OK..probably seems a simple task, but not sure how to check shock size correctly.

I have recently aquired 2 late 90's full sussers. Both of which don;t have the most respected of shocks attached.

1 a shockwave coil, the other a RS Coupe deluxe.

I think I may want to swap them out for more modern types.

So assuming that they aren't silly sizes and this is indeed possible, where do I start ?

Removed, compressed, minus sag??? help please.

I believe you just need to measure from eye-to-eye of the shock when it's off the bike (so not under any load) to get the length. Then just measure the length of the stoke. on the bike. pumped up/extended, no sag/compression
then measure eye to eye (of the bolts as they will be there)

but it might be worth looking up the actual original shock for stroke

measure as per the top pic, assuming they are they correct size in the 1st place

I am pretty certain that the present shocks are the OEM ones.

Though both bikes have very little on-line info.

I will, of course, be putting up some pics once I have done a little fettling over the chrimbo hols.

Remember it's centre to centre of the bushings. Calipers are the best (most accurate) way to measure shock length, so it's inside to inside of the bushings plus the ID of one bushing (if they're the same ID) w. outside calipers or outside of ID to outside minus one ID with inside calipers.
