Is my claud Earlier than i thought?

Just been looking thru some old bits and bobs and found this....

It shows the early style deraliur marketed by phillips as a "resilion" Using a braze on bracket on the chainstay... My claud that is for sale on here, Has that bracket, Or at least i think thats what it is.....
But the rear hub is dated 1981... Although theres nothing to say it hasnt had a new hub laced in at some point.... Anyone got any ideas on ages / models of old clauds ,Or know how i can date it?

My feeling is that the braze-on isn't of the correct type for a Resilion derailleur. The old derailleurs in my collection (Huret Route Touriste and Super Champion Nivex) have two fixing bolts that both attach up near the stay:

Despite the shape of its mounting bracket the Resilion looks to be of that pattern:

Your braze-on has its holes set at an angle.

Although I can't see it in any of the catalogues that are available online, your bike looks to have all the features of an eighties Claud, and if the Reynolds 501 stickers are accurate couldn't be any older. 501 made its appearance in the early eighties.

Could the bracket be for the mounting of a chain guard? It's not the type of chainstay-mounted chainguard bracket I'm familiar with, but it would be usual for a bike of this style to be sold with a chainguard of some type.

Hi, your claud is clearly a late seventies / early eighties. The rear brake brazons on top of the top tube, the late seventies 531 decals, the Claud Butler decal not badge, the palleral upright frame angles and simple lugs all line up correctly, and thats without aging the components. Cheers guys , My initial thought was that its a 81, The stickers and things didnt seem right for an older model. Yet i saw that bracket in a pic and thought id better ask

Ive been looking thru other things , And the only one i can see thats sorta the same , Is the majestic. Although thats 10speed ?? and set up for such.. Whereas this is a 3 speed, And i cant find any others :?: :?:

There's nothing to say it wasn't a 10 speed at one point in the past.

I thought that, But didnt clauds of the early 80's come with a deraliur hanger?
Theres also no cable guides of any kind on the BB shell, On top or under...
Not sure if clauds had them, But theres also no stops for the gear levers on the downtube to stop it moving.

It hasnt got anything :shock:

Im wondering if it was maybe one of those, You buy the frame and then get it built situations. ?

Well, it says that it is a 'Limited Edition' so it could be a very limited edition which didn't appear in any catalogues - but the lack of brazings is rather strange.
