98+ botm?

Excellent, lets embrace and grow this needless segregation.

Certain "special" months have allowed for 98+ bikes, and they tend to attract the interesting builds/models.

Personally I am not interested in seeing a load of stock 2006 specialized humpjumpers or Trek Fuels etc. If I wanted to look at a page of people showing them off there are other websites, or I could just walk into Evans.

well naff off and dont look then!

i personally dont have any interest in looking at fut chance and mountain gout bikes as they have no relevance to my riding past. the way i get round this is to not look at em.

and wasn't the point of the segregation because some people slammed people from entering modern bikes in the first place?

couldnt have put it better myself :D

if you dont like something...dont look at it...thats why you have a remote with your tv...you dont like program..turny over

Isnt that what this forum is about!!!!!!! NON RETRO!!! 1998 onwards there is no limit as to what year it ends as far as im concerned it ends at the present day, if you prefer to glote over pre 1998 then thats fine stick to that forum, personnaly i like a bit of allsorts.
If certain people dont like looking at 1998 bikes onwards and have such a huge problem with them then speak to the mods and get everything 1998 onwards taken off the site.
We all love bikes and everyone on here are into riding bikes wether it being old or modern.

Imust say i dont want to look at aload of ugly specialised stumpjumpers and treks and stock bikes, i couldnt agree more but im sure there is some lovely unique rare stunning looking bikes out there that are newish and yes lets have a look at them if its something alittle diffrent, i mean come on how could anyone not like a Ibis mojo SL or an Ibis Tranny build!!??

So why, pray tell do you visit Retrobike? I mean, there is a clue in the name... retro bike Its a place primarily for old bikes.
If old Fats and Goats aren't your thing you might be better off looking at Singletrackdowhilljumpworld.com.uk instead. They might be interested in doing some kind of 'modern thing of the month' for you.

As for people getting 'slammed', well entering a modern bike in a competition for vintage bikes?? Pretty obvious really that is was frowned upon, but slammed is a bit harsh.

Personally i like modern bikes, have a few nice ones myself, but i'm not going to get my kecks into a twist over a post 98 BoTM contest.

Si, off to look at a Goat.

Pretty much what I was meaning. Dont get me wrong I like modern bikes, I have several and keep having to hold myself back from buying a new bike to replace my 08 epic.

But it is not what this site is about. In the right context the current BOTM is open to 98+ bikes (my own RC500 won a BOTM and thats a 98 ) but I dont see the point to showing bikes that any one could walk out today and order from any retailer with very little difficulty, especially on Retrobike.

I think most people on this site ride a mix of retro & modern, but the site is dedicated to Retrobikes, hence the name as the good Doctor points out.

jama why don't you pm the guv and ask him about it? He did seem quite final about it last poll, but theres the new section now and if it runs itself and is treated as a bit of fun you never know. If it was to go ahead though I'd expect a no holds barred enter if you dare showdown! There does seem to be a more distinct anti modern vibe from when the last one was run.

.

Perhaps it could be more specific than just 'newer than 98'.
Maybe,
Steel framed newer than 98
or
Older than 98 made to look like newer than 98 ;)
