I think anodising depends on the quality and also type of aluminium.

yes - it can be done. My dad purple anodised my whole XT groupset back in the early 90's! The quality of the alloy is fine - just need to make sure it is very clean.
As for L/H Cooks. Who has one for me to strip?
I had some stuff for my Wicked gold anodized here in the states.
