hope caliper fouling spokes

Assuming it is a Shimano hub with cup and cone bearings could you loosen the lock-nuts and move the bearings across the axle a few millimetres. I know setting up cup and cone bearings is a PITA but may help resolve your problem if nothing else works.

I read this a few times and am probably being thick  (again )

Is the datum not set by the cone i.e. you would move the axle (up to a point the the QR wouldn't tighten or the opostie end of the axle wouldn't locate in the dropout) but not move the spoke relative to the caliper ? :?

WD :D

The Hope caliper of the time, was designed to work with a rotor mounted on a Hope hub. Throw in an XT hub and it caused this kind of trouble. It was a few more years before things became a bit more standarised. Filing corners off calipers is well nto the realms of nasty bodgery! I did once see a file-merchant go so far as to hit the internal oil-ways, but that was extreme , trying to get something to work on a Manitou. With the Rock Shox, it shouldn't require so much material removal.
