Easy snow traction and cheap too Disc brakes only

Whilst searching online for something entirely different, I came across an interesting article and seeing as we got snow in the UK at the moment ( not us...yet) and others are thinking about bike traction in the snow, I thought this article might be of interest here ;

...he's starting with slicks though. Surely zip-ties won't be as good as normal nobbly tyres? I guess nobblies get chocked easily; but then so would zip-ties.

the idea is that the hard heads dig into ice on cornering (unlike the knobblies on a mtb tyre) it's not the band that does the main work but I'm sure they help a little.

Youse with the disc brakes could do it another way, just spiral wrap a length of chain round the tyre and through the spokes, even that thin stuff one finds on a reel in homebase.
