Recently bought a folding Dart off here for £8posted - the blackwalls just aren't so popular :( That said I'd be interestd one if you do sell as mines come away from the bead! :x
 
Hi everyone - apologies for jumping straight in on this thread with a first post but hope you can help me with a dilemma about my bike.
Haven't ridden now for several years and she's been sat in the shed which seems awfully sad for what was my pride and joy. Thanks to a chap at work who pointed me at this site I have been trawling the pages with a nostalgic smile of days past when I could name every component. What a brilliant place. Old bikes never die......
So with this in mind should I be thinking of selling my Trek Y33 ? If its not worth much these days then I'll keep it but now my idea of a bike ride is along a flat trail keeping up with my 5 year old ! I was looking at getting a hybrid like a Specialised Crossroads or something similar so if my Trek is worth similar money then it would be up for sale (or swap).

So here goes.

Trek Y33 from 1996 - original Strata Shock replaced with O2 air/oil 2009 and rear triangle bearing/bushes replaced at same time
Pace RC36 Evo (Pro Class?) forks
mostly XT groupset V-brake etc , XTR rear mech, LX chainset
Hope Titanium hubs, Mavic rims X517 (front is Ceramic), Richey WCS kevlar tyres
X-lite titanium handlebar, Control Stix bar ends, Onza grips, Bontrager stem
Control Tech seatpost, Flite saddle has been replaced in 2009 with a more padded titanium rail saddle which I can't remeber the name of !

Thats about it ? The whole bike is very light ~ 25lbs and was used for recreational cross country riding never raced - I was too slow ! - and still rides beautifully today, everything is in perfect working order.
I really have no idea what value it is as early Y series bikes seem pretty rare and those I have seen are standard so I would greatly appreciate some wisdom.

Hi and welcome.

The Trek Ys don't seem that popular - I've always liked how they looked, though never ridden one. Your's looks in pretty good nick at least, and has some nice bits on it. To maximise value, you'd need to split - a similar set of wheels went for £85 on ebay at the weekend, forks should sell quite easily too.

If you did, I'd be interested in the wheels. :D

Split here up, it's the easiest way, takes more packaging though and a bit more time.
Chances are the buyer would only do that anyway.

Other than that, but old bike complete don't really seem to sell for as much as their complete package. £250 ? As most buyers would go, cannot guarantee condition of parts. Wheels are xx, forks are xx, mechs are xx. chainset is not a lot. setpost if xx etc..
Is the frame now free for me ? Sort of thing.

Looks like the stem I saw on here - from an early 80's saracen or f.w.evans, quite collectable/rare I would have thought but no idea on value I'm afraid.

I expected as much as the bike is pretty individual so I'll look at splitting it up and the bits I don't sell can go onto my other retro bike - 94(?) Marin Nail Trail - currently unridden by my other half. :roll: better to have 1 unused bike than 2.

Any ideas on which of the major parts - wheels (TedC poss dibs ?), frame, fork, brakes etc would be of interest and possible price I can ask.

This is looking like it might turn into a for sale - I'd love the forks if they'll take cantis ;) :LOL:

Might be worth doing an 'ended items' search in ebay as you're now needing about forty different valuations... :shock: :LOL:

Lovely bike though, why not just keep using it? :cool:

Wheel vary and will depend if there are any crack in the hubs (on the red flanges from the Ti centre. Look carefully if there are any thin cracks developing.
If the rims are good as well then anything up to say £150 for the set.
Search the for Sale section they come up, and they come up on ebay as well.
Everything depends on condition and just take you time looking through ebay and the for sale for whatever parts your selling.

Had a good look on Ebay etc and can see there is definitely always someone wanting something somewhere despite my doubts of how old or obscure bike parts are !
So yes this may well turn into a multi-For Sale.
I'm going to dig both bikes out of the shed despite the snow and have a good look at everything condition and take some pics.
Still a bit torn at the idea of selling this bike but just browsing around here there are loads of tempting things and its really got me keen on building up the Marin into something new - replace the shocking RST forks with some RC30's for example - which will be more suitable for my bimbling along disused railway tracks !
