The NW&NW Area: General Chat Thread

I've been to Grizedale a few times and found it ok, Think this would be a good idea.

We could join Grizedale with some trails around Hawkshead etc???

We took in a large chunk of Grizedale's North Face Trail on a Retrobike ride back in May this year. The ride started in Coniston and took in some brilliant natural trails before heading into the forest, and then back out onto more fantastic natural stuff. I think we did nearly 30 miles in total.

It's just a shame only three people including myself could make it for what for me was some of the best riding I've done this year.

We will go back at some point for sure.

Is there any riding to be done in the south west lakes area that you've not explored or now of any?

Say over towards Wast Water, Seascale's area????

There is some great riding out to the South Western Lakes too.
I did a two day Autumn Polaris event a few years ago which started in Gosforth, with the overnight camp just next the Wast Water.

One of the checkpoints was on the beach just alongside Sellafield and was only accessible at low tide. Another was at the top of Black Sail Pass if I remember correctly. It was a great introduction to the trails in the area.
I've been back to the area a few times since and I'd happily return.

Anyway, there is plenty of potential over that way. I think I've got some published routes as well as a few ideas of my own.
As Mark says though it's pretty close to mr_ship's home patch.

Just a little reminder that the NE&YORKS area has a National Status Event on the 27th of November.

Plans are being drawn up now and its looking good. We were going to do a moorland epic but the trails are already getting rather gloopy so we are heading to Dalby.

As an extra bonus the RAC Historic Rally is taking place the same day in nearby Langdale so the outline plan is thus..

9:30 meet at Dalby for a guided tour around the new Pace Museum with Adrian Carter (TBC)

10:15 Ride around the best parts of Dalby Red and Black, plus a few of Gils secret trails, a play at the bikepark before more Red and a section of the UCI world cup course

11:30 Lunch at Jingleby Tea Rooms

12:15 More red before the helter skelter decsent into Langdale

13:30 RAC Rally in Langdale, a fast open section with all the best cars from the 60's and 70's in action- Escorts, Porsches, SAABs, Lancia Stratos etc

14:40 Return to Dalby for more red and the brilliant Riggs and Dales section

16:30 Finish at Purple Mountain Cafe for hot chocolate and cake.

Thread should be up in the next few days once we have got the plans ironed out. Should be a cracking day out and we would love to see our NWA there again.

Some top suggestions here. I've been doing a fair of riding over Grizedale this year and it does indeed deserve a meet of its own and must be considered. But the attendance at the last S. Lakes event puts me off greatly. I think it best that we discuss this in greater detail over a bacon butty at this weekends North Wales meet and finalize this. It might also be worth staring a thread of ideas for rides next year to capture every bodies suggestions.

Next NWA ride date and location now released.

Saturday 20th November: Rivington Pike

Details to follow once we've finalised a route.

Think Rivington was used for the Common Wealth games. I've never ridden there so should be a good place to explore as it seems popular.

I can make the 20th chaps. I think i need to get some winter mtb boots soon though. Will the cro-mega xt be ready for this mrlee ?
