What tyres can cope with some road milage?

I know everybody has an opinion on which is the best tyre but I need yours. I am building up a rigid Pace RC200F6 as my winter bike and it will get a fair amount of road mileage. Probably 50/50 split. Ideally I need a tyre that is quick on the road with a reasonable wear rate that will also cope with some off road. Cheers. Any advice welcome.

Continental tractions do pretty well, Also, if you like slicks, schwalbe city jets are awesome

and they grip pretty well on mud and things IMO

i dont think i'd trust a slick offroad in uk winter mud.

i dont think what you are after exists. tyres that wear well on the road tend not to be grippy off it and vice versa. if it were for summer use i'd say semi slicks but not really sure what to recomend really.

Tioga Trail Finder have been pretty good this year, semi slick middle with small knobblies on the outside

about £11.99 ea

I also used Ritchey Speedmax for commuting along a dual carriageway/ farm tracks

about £12 - £39 depending model

Schwalbe Marathons, there are many sub variants of this tyre, some are quite rugged, aimed at tourer types. CTC raved about 700c Marathons for years.

Schwalbe Marathon Extremes look like a good option as they appear to be a good compromise between on and off road. As always with tyres there is not a perfect solution but thanks for all the feedback.

Are what I've used and great for commuting even fine in the snow and ice.
Probably shite in the gloopy mud around here, but then my knobbly tyres where not much use either

Fine for bridleways, tracks, canal paths though

The traffic has the knobbly look for on raoad, but again looks like it'll be poor in the wet weather offroad.

The Marathon Extreme looks like it'll have all the same problems. So just go with your preferred brand.

+1 for these

Used them for 18 months of day in day out commuting on road and farm tracks (swapped for spiked ice tyres in the snow). Stupidly replaced them with Contis when they wore out. Will be going back to Marathon Plus once the contis wear out. Pulled out a carpet tack, glass and flints without getting a puncture they were defeated by the hawthorn thorns at hedge cutting times though.

I have some Swalbe Marathons too and they are very tough - heavy though - I notice the difference when I have them on my wheels.
