Macretro: Coast to coast, aftermath

For a laugh - the following are all genuine posts from the planning thread......with some of my unbiased comments added….spooky ;)

Kaiser
Route summary (we might have a wee detour at knockdampf to shorten the walk section)...
Is it just me or does that smack of, well, erm, german?

Robmac
I used to get paid good money to walk the streets at night
Hmmm – didn’t work in Ullapool

Mr Panda (referring to Gazz)
remember night well - i spend with you again, yes.........
same bunk, I slept on top of him

Velomaniac
Keeping your backside to the wall seems sensible for some reason
Fewer places to hide the soap

TK (on preparation of Map 1)
I folded it half way to make it double sided and laminated the lot to make it waterproof (use the thinnest laminating pouches).
Rolled up into a side pocket - job done.
haha

Kaiser
I reckon this one is dead in the water. I'm going to pull out.
Displaying lack of committment

Clockworkgazz
this would be a ride no-one has done before which is a bit daunting and risky
triggerpoint

Mr Panda
Need to get some more up to date maps - mine is 1974
LOL

Therealkw15
Clearly the chances of getting hideously lost are high...
LOL

TK
did you have to pay for that map?
Look after the pennies and the pounds’ll take care of themselves

TK (on preparation of Map 2)
here's a miniture of mine, I printed it out folded it in half to make it doublesided then thin laminated the lot, rolled around my top tube for most the journey.
Yes – we know now how it works

Mr Panda
On my 1974 retro map the Duag Bridge - Knockdamph section is shown as rough footpath
Vindicated!

Robmac
Yeah count me in
…and then there were three

Clockworkgazz
I am on the cusp of kicking mr k's peak trip into touch and joining you intrepid fella's
Ooooohhhh, touchy, touchy

Clockworkgazz
I'm in if you can promise me sunshine
The praying worked

Zigzag
Really quite fancy this, bummed out
Not sure what to make of that

Mr Panda
Baggy me no on top.
Well baggy’s don’t work then

Kaiser
I'm up for this one too
U-turn! (as opposed to well, erm, U-boat)

Kaiser
Whatever, I'm last to the party and don't mind either way I can manage 2 bikes and bodies
SHOCKED

Therealkw15
2km from Duag Bridge we need to ford the Abhainn Poblaidh
Scary-mongering

Kaiser
Anyone fancy going for a dip at each end
Is it just me who thought he meant Doritos?

Clockworkgazz
good work therealkw15 glad to see someone will know where we are going
hmph!

Clockworkgazz
I'm taking money, camera, waterproofs, food, trunks, dry clothes and dry shoes
Read – loafers!

TK
Edinburgh Coop Sale starts tomorrow at 9am
if anyone was going to know this……it would be a Dundonian

TK
Booked up and just bought these for £34 plus £2.95 postage...
…..but there’s a story behind this

Radoslaw
as you may know I don't like bogs too much
Botty’s yes – bogs no.

Kaiser
buy cheap buy twice
not if you keep the receipt

robmac
Wheres the map again?
Beside TK’s cock

TK
I'll try to remember to bring you some Throbbin' Gristle Mr P
He did!

TK
but I still have to make better rack mounts than last time
aha – forgot about that then

Robmac
Im sorry Im not sharing pants
Unlike Rado and ZZ who shared pyjama bottoms

Jimihendrix
Rado will need at least ten spare tubes
……and a chain

Kaiser
Could just singlespeed and go on the Ku
Alternatively could fits loads of cogs but no derrailieurs and hope no-one sees me switching gears by hand

Therealkw15
I'm a bit worried about our river crossing
You tease!

TK
I can bring 30ft(might be metres) of rope and a 650kg carabina
Yeah – good idea

TK
I've made a top tube version of my map and a larger version for in my bag incase we do actually get lost
And it gives me a more comfortable support for “willy”

Kaiser
Do you still get phone cards?
Yes actually

Therealkw15
this now gives me an extra half day to fart around
......so you tutored TK and Rob?

Kaiser
*no one has mentioned how stupid this may be so I've done it anyway and now its too late.
*its stupid

TK
My bike is set
= my bike is loaded with everything I could carry from Halfords last weekend

Clockworkgazz
head to inverness and then ask for directions, what can go wrong?
Poor maps?

TK
starting to think I have underpacked
yep – we all thought the same. Tsk.

Clockworkgazz
like your ring action- does it work ok?
……Gazz practices his chat up lines for a hot Saturday night in Ullapool.

TK
do you just stop to change the front gear or clip it with your heel?
…..so does TK

Kaiser
I still don't think I'll fill them. Better to have two half filled than one full no?
……and so does ironman

TK (on using only one rear pannier)
Depends, I used one for years BITD……never bothers me
OK - no imbalance issues there then.

Radoslaw
completely wasting space gadget in my opinion but... heck take it
Picking up handy tips from TK packing strategy

Radoslaw
I'll take ipod and car charger
That’s more like it

Clockworkgazz
See you all in Ullapool at 10.30 lads
First navigational error!

Zigzag
What a laugh
Worthwhile then!!

Radoslaw
Thanks all for a good company
Job done…….until next time.

;)

I have exorcised the damp clothing from my panniers  bawgin!

How do we better that? ;)

Serious injury during the carpark dash resulting in helicopter evacuation should about do it :D

looks like an outstanding ride guys. hate missing these things! is it wrong to be stuck offshore and get jealous when you see folk out enjoying themselves on their bikes?
