Anyway - re-reading this thread, it struck me that we could do with jotting down a few more details to try and bottom out what many of these bikes are and how they fit into the timeline.

How about a few more specs? Here's a first stab at a list of details that help identification:

Lug style: Semi tapered with a detail
Chain stays: 17"; curved; kinked
Wheelbase: 44"
Dropouts: No name
Significant Components: 22mm bullmoose bars; Shimano deerhead group; wolber canyon rims; Madison saddle; high flange hubs

I really bought this for the hubs, bars and brakes, but the fact that it's got a 27.0mm seat post; is sub 30lb clobbered up and has nifty pumppeg braze on has got me all interested in what it could be. Anyone recognise the frame number configuration?

Unhappily some cruel miscreant got creative with a welder and bodged a repair on the rear dropouts. If it rides well or turns out to be by an interesting builder, I'll get it back to its former glory.

The solid rear tyre :shock: wrong way round brake levers, wolber rim and creative sticker work also give it a European flavour. Any ideas?

I think that is a Halford's Carerra looking at the decals on the top tube :shock:
 
my british eagle k3 think its about 88/89? its running a full shimano 200 gs groupset anybody any info please ;)

sorry but falls outside the 'rools' of the thread - its got have the 3 piece forks to qualify.

Yeah but if you look at the sticker on the down tube it's most def a Klein.

Eitherway - I've skipped it, so if your contacts stretch to the East Yorks chapter of the environmental services industry, it could be yours ..... ;)

:evil: :shock: :roll: great, perfectly good bike - now landfill - sorry, that's a poor show and totally against my perception of the spirit of this site. Thought you were under the impression that it was an interesting early ATB? Regardless, certain parts of your bike are quite sought-after now too... stem, fluted post, large flange hubs etc. all quite rare!

Er, no: not a perfectly good bike (if it were, I would have happily given the frame away). It turned ot to be a horribly mutilated rusty brute unworthy of my or anyone else's time. But as you say - nice parts and fork that won't go to waste.
