Help I Broke my Principia Alloy Frame

Sithlord

Old School Grand Master
I own a 2003 Principia MSL Pro mountain bike frame 980grams 7020 alloy(ACID Dipped?) (Yea I know) , unfortunately, where the head gusset runs down the down tube, it cracked and runs nearly right around the tube.. Doh! I would normally just scrap the frame, but its brilliant, and want to see if anyone on here knows anyone who could repair it? I have tried argos racing cycles and vernon barker(who am awaiting to here from) I know it wont be cheap but shes worth every penny..

thanks in advance..

Have you contacted Principia directly or through bike shop ? I'm pretty sure they would repair it but its obviously going to cost you :?

I'm sure I remember reading about them repairing frames and being able to re heat treat them as well, got to be worth a try :)

I think the article was about if ever the frames began to feel "tired" they could re heat treat them to put the "zing" back into them :)

Cheers
Steve

Lovely, lovely bikes made in Denmark I think :) scarily thin tubing on their high end aluminium road bikes  I had one on loan for a while :) under 15lbs but the thin tubes scared me

Rode lovely though :)

Principia as a manufacturer went bust a couple of years ago. You can still buy a Principia, but they are made in Taiwan now, based upon the original tubing specs.

Chances of getting one repaired by Principia the company are zero.

Thats a real shame :( I almost bought the one I had on loan, was a really nice bike to ride just had a few doubts about its longevity :? especially racing every weekend and chucking the bikes in the back of a van for the trip home

Principia Frame repair

Sorry peeps, meant to say I had contacted Principia regarding this problem, and as I had thought there is nothing they can do as 'Principia' remains in name only, and all new Principias are now mass produced in the far east. anyone who has ridden one of the older Principia handmade cycles will appreciate why i want to repair this frame, any links or information regarding the posible repair of this frame would be much appreciated.

What size is it? They come up for sale every now and then in Denmark.

To be honest, I was never particularly taken with Principia bikes, even though I worked in one of the largest (if not the largest) Principia dealerships in the country. They are great if you have the build for them, but for small guys like me, then they are all stiffness and no "feel".....

The RSL cross bike though... stiffness aside, I still wouldn't mind one of them.

But I digress.

Contact these guys (my old workplace) - they all speak english.

You MIGHT be lucky. I doubt it, but you never know. I think all the old stock is gone now. But they did buy up a significant portion of the stuff that was left after the bankruptcy. It's worth a try.

Oherwise keep your eyes peeled on here

Retro has yet to hit Denmark......

That's what the Taiwanese engineers who came to look at a couple of broken warranty frames we had in the shop thought too. Much shaking of heads and non-impressed looking expressions......

To be honest, you might be better off with a Post-bankruptcy frame. But buy one of the ones for the Danish market if you can. Better by all accounts than the international versions which have more in common with Boreas.
