what happens at the end of the video?

the tv presenter tells Fignon that he will have his place next year on the TDF but then Fignon just collapses in tears . he must have known he would not be there .

Off topic but a real shame also - Bob was the president of Concorde Road CC which I was a member of in my teens. Very weird as I looked them up today after many years.
