Can anybody point me in the direction of big pictures so I can see what hubs I have and what cassettes I need.

Identifying Campagnolo cassette freehubs

The main difference is the freehub body - if it's steel then it's 8 speed or earlier, if Alu then it's 9/10 speed era. The spline pattern is the same, but the later (Alu ones) have deeper teeth to prevent the cogs from chewing up the Alu.
But you can retrofit suitable Alu freehub bodies onto the older 8 speed hubs.

so, a standard 8spd Campag cassette should fit? Ebay seller sold them as Shimano compatible so I'll see what I can get out of them rather than send them back.
