As per the rumour it looks like Geoff Apps didn't make it in. Big congrats to Alan Bonds though :)

The inductees selected for placement into the 2010 Mountain Bike Hall of Fame are; John Ker, the legendary photographer for Mountain Bike Action, Jim Wannamaker, a knowledgeable, likeable, hard working ambassador for mountain biking and rider/racer support, Alan Bonds, an integral part of the early Marin County fat-tire scene and "The Fro Riders", Wade Simmons, Richey Schley and Brett Tippie,
pioneers of the movement known as free-riding.

The Mountain Bike Hall of Fame & Museum was founded in 1988 in Crested Butte, Colorado. Ten mountain biking pioneers were inducted that first year; between three to seven mountain bike legends have been selected annually since then. The 2010 selections bring the number of Hall of Fame inductees to 112 individuals plus seven groups. The history of the sport of mountain biking, many of the early fat-tire bikes and the stories of Hall of Fame inductees are presented at the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame Museum, which is located in lovely downtown Crested Butte.

I am so glad Alan Bond is offically in the Hall of fame. Such a nice bloke, not really interested in fame of making millions, but i am sure a bit of recognition is always nice.

Cheers
Pete

Congratulations to Alan. First nomintated in 1996 it's been a long time coming and well overdue.
Geoff Apps should also make it one day but alas he is not widely known over in the States which is a real shame as his contribution and place in UK history is significant.
Isn't it about time that there is a more European centred Hall of Fame? Afterall we have been in on the act for some time now.

If Geoff Apps was American, he would be in the Hall of Fame without any doubt whatsoever, so his omission is all about them and not about him. However to be fair they don't claim it as a world hall of fame, and that is evident from the list of inductees, only a tiny minority of whom are from outside the US.

Why should there not be an annually-elected Retrobike World Hall of Fame?

So, the mystique, manufactured of course, about The Repack, Marin County etc triumphs again. We were doing this in the Fifties, with the Rough Stuff Fellowship. Maybe time to admit that the orthodoxy of MTB history is fixed, and must not be challenged............Alan Bonds, definitely, a worthy inductee. Some of the others.......well.......

Big congratulations to Alan Bonds.
His website has some beautiful bikes and is a real inspiration for anyone interested in the history & influences on US MTBing.

From the early 1980s onwards, many of the Marin pioneers knew about and respected Geoff's ideas. In particular his use of 650b and 700c snow tyres. So many American pioneers agree that he deserves to be in the MTB Hall of Fame. However it is all the Hall of fame members who decide and some of the other candidates have equally fascinating stories to tell.

Unlike most of the other categories, the Pioneer's candidate list gets shorter as more pioneers are inducted. So Geoff's contribution to our sport, may one day be recognised by the US MTBHoF.

It would be gracious indeed for the American membership to vote in someone who has never set foot in Marin County.

However the list of original and forward thinking Geoff Apps' ideas, that are commonly found on modern bikes, is long and impressive. And his ability to preempt every thing from modern frame angles, sloping top tubes, narrow rims, low presure tyres etc, etc, deserves to be recognised in its own right. When I showed Joe Breeze my 1883 Cleland, he was surprised by how many modern design features if had. Joe was keen to copy one Apps' idea that haddn't yet transfered to the mainstream, and include it on his 2011 Breezer bikes. So Geoff's ideas continue to be as relevant and influential as ever.
