How to make a grown man cry...

Just read your story here and im gutted for u. i reckon something good may come round the corner & balance things up a bit ;)

I've had a cunning plan

(not an offer!)

but you could replace the whole chainstay  Its not like you don't know enough engineers

LOL sounds like an offer Chris
Are you thinking of rifling the rear end from another bike?

Fixing it could be like the old joke.

This is a great axe, had it for years, only needed to replace the handle 4 times and the blade twice, completely original otherwise

I'm guessing banked corner, going real fast, leaning very hard into the corner and powering the pedals must have put a lot of twisting force through the frame causing this, the corrosion didn't help though.

That would have been the final straw, but it's probably been cracked for months, if not years - it'll have started on that bit that's right on the weld for the chainstay bridge and gradually got longer. That can go on for ages until eventually there's not enough metal joined together to take the loads and the rest of it all goes at once.
