Now I have to pick rims...

Slate Blue Mavic 221s, or Sunset 217s, or Silver 217s. Any opinions?

I've also got Red Suns and some Mavic 517 Citrons!  But I don't think they are options!

After planning to use Silver 217s, I'm now leaning toward the Sunsets. :D

The Blues have been kicking around my shop for a while looking for a home, so thats a possibility. Silver is the safe choice, and the Sunsets look great mounted with tires and everything. I put a built set of Sunsets on the bike and they look nice. I agree that they are way too new though. Lots of bling in a Sunset rim, and not a lot of bling elsewhere on that bike. :?

I might do Blue. The Rocky would be a good home for those.

wheels!

Been putting together the wheels for the Rocky and this is the direction I've decided to go in. I'm using Deore DX wheels with Mavic 717 rims in black. The original Rocky would seem to me, had dark ano rims and these 717s are pretty close to that, look just like 217s I thought I'd use, and are a nice modern insurance policy for a bike that I plan to use off road. I will remove the 717 decals...which reminds me. Does anyone remember that thread about a year ago about making Mavic decals in the 231 style, but with alternate rim numbers? I'd love 231 style decals on my 717s.

The wheels are actually a spare set of single speeders from the white EWR. The front is already on a 717 and the back is a Rhyno Lite. The Rhyno has always been a garbage wheel, so these haven't seen much use. The rear wheel will need to be laced up with fresh spokes on to the 717. When I installed the 130 axle I had to remove the bolt on single speed axle and the Surley Singleator and put the 7sp HG body back on.

SO...front wheel is ready to go, and the back wheel needs that 130mm axle retrofit, so...
