It makes me mad.....

Ed - does this mean I have to call you Edward?

(JOKE) :D :D :D

I know what you mean, it's about being ever more 'subculture' isn't it, 'Fixie' - 'low pro' - 'spesh' etc, all about knowing your abbreviations, and being one step ahead of those that call them specialized still More 'in' with the bike culture. I agree, much more courage of your conviction to say specialized. But I fear i am guilty of the crime as much as the next cyclist.

Personally I haven't a problem with it alt all. It's a term of endearment really isn't it.

Bonty, Spesh, Stumpy, all fair game.

Do you mean to say that you pronounce fully, and correctly, the names of half of the Kona range of bikes from over the years...?

humuhumu nukunuku a pua
for example...

I HATE!! "Spesh" drives me nuts :x

I used to hate the whats it worth posts :? you get a lot of them on Camper van forums usually on their first posting

But then when I recently came to start selling a few bikes I realised I had no idea what they were worth :? someone gave me a link to Retro bike and here I am :)

Since I've joined I've sold nothing, given away some and bought loads :?

Mech is the correct term actually. Hence front / rear mech.

Derailleur was the name of the frenchman who invented it and so technically only his products are Derailleurs.

Same in essence as Hoover / vacuum cleaner.

Just so yer know...!

Really? Still think there's a fair chance you're joking, but anyway... :)

Dérailleur is French for derailer (as in something that de-rails your chain!) - I was under the impression that we use the French spelling because a Frenchman(/men) invented & developed them, but it'd be quite a coincidence if that was his name too!

not so much mad as lack of understanding.

people who collect piles of lovely kit and dont and wont build it into bikes.

even if you dont ride them, at least build them up.
