Fitting bottle cages to boss-less frames?

Old School Hero
I have an old Claud Butler Holdsworthy road frame bought on here in December (loving it, such a great bike) and need to fit more bottle cages.

The frame doesn't have any cage bosses, and I don't want the expense of getting some done by a frame builder.

Are there cheap, effective solutions for adding more? I know there is a 'band-on' type of adapter but it's a but ugly and sits very high.

Any suggestions?

looks like it can be used on the frame tubes.

or take the rollers off and use these:

those Zefal gizmos are good, I've used them on a couple of bikes for bottles and crud catchers. They look pretty tidy and don't come loose.

you can get some brakets that fit to the seat rails. My pal had to use thse on his full susser. Chainreaction sell them.
otherwise how about one of those camelback things

A frame builder will charge about £15-£20 to fit a set of bottle bosses.

Had a similar conundrum with a frame lacking bosses. In the end paid the extra few quid for a proper job.

A Camlebak on a randonneur? No no no ;o)

I'll eventually look at getting it properly done when I refurbish and respray it, but at the moment I just need a quick and cheap fix.

Thanks for all the helpful info!

You could use the proper clips (ie came with the bottle cage) for attaching a bottle cage, that's what people used in the days when frames usually didn't have braze on bosses, although they might be a bit hard to find now.
