These things do work for some people and will help with numb hands.
firstly raise your bars slightly or try a bar with a different sweep or rise
Play around with grips its not always the fatter ones that work for some
but most important is to wear a good pair of mits. theyre not made to make you look like an old shaved roady but are designed to protect your palms and wrists from soarness by protecting the nerves which is usualy the cause of hand pain

) - it's just the vibration from the rough tracks I ride - last thing to try I suppose is -as you suggest some better padded gloves
