i'm considering a few options for my kona and you've just helped me make my mind up on at least 3 things! cheers.
btw i prefer the Fri May 28, 2010 7:07 pm build, which probably gives you an indication of the direction mines taking!

I reckon some modern (V brake) Fox forks would look good on that, especialy in silver like your old Hei Hei

Thanks :)

Didn't you buy my old set of Fox's off me Neil?

Anyway, they are heavy, the SID's are light ;) I've got a choice of these SID Race in silver or between a black or white set of SID WC - any thoughts?

I want to do a custom SID anyway to get them a bit lighter

Cheers

I did indeed, mighty fine they are too :D

Reckon black is good on the Hei Hei, as for weight maybe it's time to hit the Tibolts site and lighten the wallet!

Taking my Kona out this weekend as my RM is rogered...looking forward to it :D

Good to hear they're working well :)

I'll pop each fork (silver/black/white) in and see how they look ;)

I think the weight is pretty good as it is; but with a re-worked custom fork and a couple of other bits and bobs, inc. bolts ;) it'll come down a bit more :)

Cheers

SID World Cup in black?....

SID World Cup in pearl white?....

Also added a couple of orange alloy bolts to the shifters....

Any thoughts on fork choice? I am also thinking of swapping out the orange headset and seatpost clamp for black ones :?

Cheers

Been playing around with the SID's today.

I've made a hybrid fork from an '03 SID Race and '07 SID World Cup; taking the carbon steerer and crown / leg assembly and 'mating' it  with the 'race' lowers and Pure-delite damping rather than the Motion Control damping in the WC's.

Result is a 1200g fork, which isn't bad  Total weight (with Conti Speed Kings) has now dropped from 18.6lb to 18.33lb :)

I've also fitted a Middleburn Duo instead of the RF Turbine triple chainset and then swapped the Dura-ace (12-27) cassette for an XTR M953 (12-34) one.

The Duo works much better with the Pauls/Dura-ace Thumbies as it was a bit awkward moving the amount of cable needed on the triple.

Nice one 8) The silver lowers look better too.

You could save a bit more rotational weight with 2.2 mountin king's supersonic or 2.1 speed king supersonics. Schwable Racing Ralphs are another option.

What are you doing for tubes? Going 'Ghetto Tubeless' could save you a few more grams and you get no flats which is an added bonus!

Swapped out the orange s'post clamp and headset and fitted the original black Kona one and a Chris King. Also added a set of Salsa Rasta Ti skewers which go nicely with the green/gold/red of the Kona logos :) ....

The silver forks look much better as previous post  But 18.33 pounds is obscene  make mine look like a lump of lead  How much do the forks weigh now :?: just wondered  Thanks.
