During a mad moment I put a rather large bid on some wheels on ebay and won. Now I look at the listing it says the XT M732 rear hub is 130mm OLN, but when I measure the Clockwork frame they are to go on it measures 135mm. Can I simply replace the axle with a 135mm version and redish the wheel or am I not that lucky this time?

you can replace the axle and spacers, or just use it anyway as the steel stays are pretty bendy and will come to no harm :)

I've done that with the Panasonic MC-Comp that got the wheelset of my AlMega

I put the 135mm axle in, spacers left. Than I centered the wheel

is it possible to go the other way about by removing a 135mm axle and changing it out for a 130 and adjusting the spacers in order to fit a new set of wheels to an old frame?

I don't recall having done that, but I think it shouldn't be a problem

130 axle in, reduce space non drive/left side. Centre the rim again.

Problem with reducing it is that you may need to get a 6 speed cassette freehub and cassette as a 7/8/9 speed cassette will be too wide and will snare on the frame if you don't really heavily dish the wheel.
