Copper anyone?

Peeped on a recent visit to London’s 14BikeCo… a completely copper-plated bike, their Truman model, made bespoke for a client.

Harking back to the very earliest days of bike building, the copper coating is to be left natural, at the buyer’s request, so that it changes colour and tarnishes in a completely unique way.

Absolutely stunning frame-building and attention to detail - even the spokes and nipples are copper plated! The company has also been experimenting with brass…

i'd rather see it stay looking copper as opposed to eventually seeing it go greeny blue.

i like the idea though. kid of reminds me of OCC's liberty bike.

I remember a lad in school in the 50's had a brass plated lugless Claud Butler that was probably pre-war. Beautiful! It was lacquered over though, not left 'au naturelle' like this one. I've wondered for years what happened to it.

I wonder if the owner of this copper one will clean it when the green verdigris gets to thick!

The chap who builds most of the 14 bike co stuff lives local to me. Next time I pop over will try to remember to ask if this is his work...

copper bikes

was very popular in the 70's

and remember the Navigar pro team in italy a few years ago had copper plated Williers

the proplem is that the laquer has to be applied very quickly after the copper process

no nore paint chips for sure

remember a cross rider had a pair made by Harry Quinn for the season and they looked like new at the end of the season.
