So just 10 days remain before the big one, Mountain Mayhem 2010. Many members of the NW&NWA are making the journey to Eastnor Castle Deer Park to camp, drink, socialise, heckle and ride in a retro manner. So please post up your plans, tips and aspirations for the weekend.

Myself and mr_ship are planning to travel down in a packed car on the Friday morning, to be on the camp site ready for the traditional RB sighter lap that afternoon. I'd recommend arriving in time for this as its a great opportunity to put names to faces of fellow Retrobikers and the banter sets the tone for the weekend.

My tips for those new to Mayhem would be to bring as much cycling clothing as you can, bring a towel and flip flops for the showers, bring beer and barbeque food for Friday night, a bin bag for your rubbish, lights for your night lap(s) and most importantly a sense of humour.

As far as my aspirations for the weekend go, if I enjoy this years Mayhem half as much as last year i'll be happy with that. I'd also like to manage a sub 1 hour lap, if track layout and weather permit. Most important, everyone enjoys the riding and goes home in one piece.

Woody and I are hiring a van from Macclesfield with the intention of bringing as many bikes and as much kit as will fit into it.
I'll have at least four bikes with me, some to populate the RB marquee and a couple to ride on.

I'll also be rivalling the official RB tent with my enormous 8 man erection...

The enhanced Team Kawasaki will be travelling down on Thursday afternoon to get a prime spot and help JV set up the Retrobike Hub; then Ed and I will lead out the afternoon social ride on Friday - with prizes being awarded for best retro accesorising.

Then we have the Retrobike 'I am 5' BBQ in the evening, before being asked to turn the music down by the earnest solo riders wanting a decent night's kip.

Saturday is race day - no doubt we'll get a line up of our retro race bikes for the cameras - then it's headlong into 24 hours of breathless banter and heckle...

I'm currently offshore again, preparing by doing as little as possible, drinking tea and eating Custard Creams. There is also no exercise bike on this stinking rustbucket. Gave up on the idea that I may be in any shape or form FIT for this a long time ago.

Looking forward to seeing everybody and sticking in a sub 2 hour lap.

Oh noooo, I feel rather inadequate on the preparation front. 'specially when people are throwing around talk of 8 man erections!

The good news is I have been cracking out some rides here and there- even attacked the Killer Mile over near Mow Cop last night. Something tells me that at Mountain Mayhem there isn't going to be a carrot in real ale costume at the top of the hill climbs though. Hmm, note to self- "Recruit beer courier for stationing at tactical points along route". Any takers for this vital role?

I'll have to update further when Sammy boy gets back from his trip and we've discussed particulars.

Oh dammit, I'll feel really bad of I don't plug him here so here goes:

Sammy (AKA Grandpa slippers) is gigging from Lands End to John O'Groats on his retro bike at the moment. If anyone would want to check out his trip, visit http://twitter.com/satnavsam or http://www.facebook.com/satnavsam or, if you'd like to donate, his sponsorship page for Water Aid is www.justgiving.com/satnavsam.

Now that's done, I suppose I should continue this shameless roll. I'm off to sell my mother for sweeties...

Tata.

Sarah

Good to hear from you Jones, we were wondering when you'd confirm your mayhem attendance.
I'm impressed with Old Grandpapa and his slippers too. Will he be doing a twenty-four hour non stop gig during the weekend as an encore...?

Remind me to sponsor him too.

See you on the long and winding road to mayhem. Or at least the M5...
