Dynatech I.D.

Brunel

Dirt Disciple
Retro or not.

Purchased Circa 1993

Sticker on the guide reads 82003, 51cm, XC50, :92:

Frame No. B47209

Also a couple of Q's

It is mostly original, just had to fit a new rear wheel and tire.

Rear tire is Schwalbe Marathon 700 x 35C.

Front is a nondescript 700 x 38C "nobbly"

Bike is used on road, very occasionally will venture on the canal towpath or playing fields.

I now feel I need a more comfortable ride, rather than speed.

Is it possible to fit larger/fatter tires on the 700 wheels, and if so what is recommended.

regards.

Very retro, and a nice example.

Be careful with that rack though. Dynatechs are not beasts of burden.

If you want a fatter tyre, you're in a better position to work it out than us! How much room is there around it?

Thanks for your reply

"How much room is there around it?"

Not a lot, approx 6mil either side of rear tire (35C)

The only heavy weight it carries is me >85Kgs......!!!

You might get away with a 38mm on the back. But if you want a bike that will take fatter tyres and be more comfortable, I'd suggest swapping it for something with more clearance and slacker angles.

I have re-measured the tire clearance, have at least 10mm either side of
the 35C.

Would prefer to keep the bike, and fit new fatter tires if poss.

Give it a go! You may find there's more room if you get rid of the mudguards.

Seriously, it's not sensible to use a rack with a Dynatech. At least not on any of the Dynatechs I've worked on. They're not meant to have them.

Defintely don't use a rack!

This has been lugging a lard arse, a laptop and work clothes 30 miles a day since November.

Have done.... fitted Marathon Plus 700 x 40 to rear, still got 3mm either side.

As you stated, no room for the mudguard, will have to try a bit of plastic remoulding.

Oh my god. What the hell have you done to it?

I will have nightmares about that tonight. Please, get a more suitable frame before you wreck that poor, innocent Raleigh.
