Si very jealous of your set up, even if it is your work. I'm due to go and do a batch of work on my A40 soon - it lives 20 miles away so I'm less inclined to have a potter in the evenings.

Anyone suggest a place to put in a new core in my radiator? It's like a sieve at the moment

Is there a Serick in Dundee ?, used them before and they are pretty good, went to them with a Yank rad years ago, the guy matched the core up with a van one and used the Chevy's top and bottom tanks, top job :cool:

Some shiny bits arrived for the Escort

These are 9x13 Minilights, going to be using 235/45/13 tyres, may seem a bit early to be buying wheels but these are an incentive to get on with the suspension and steering needed to get them mounted.

Not got a great deal done with the shell, fitted the glass and the door internals, done some more block sanding on the 1st 1/4 (doing a corner at a time)

Going to look for a Capri axle in the next week or so and get it down to a rally prep place in Ayrshire to get the brackets welded on.

Oh, i wont be using the RS Turbo spoiler in the previous post as i've discovered i cant fit the bike rack with it on :LOL:

Yep, gotta be done :) , i intend to use this thing as much as possible when its done that'll mean bringing it to rides.

How cool will that be, a rally car with a bike rack :LOL:

Decided a while ago to turn the car into a MK3 as i prefer
the earlier metal bumpers, bought a MK3 front panel (which the car
had anyway but was bashed to hell), a MK3 bonnet and grill, have discovered that the bonnet wont fit, profile at the rear is miles out,
found out the MK3 has a different scuttle, changing the scuttle is'nt
an option so will need to re-shape the rear edge of the bonnet.

Some new front end bits from Peter Lloyd Rallying, World
Cup Crossmember, quick ratio steering rack and alloy rack
mounts, they threw in a wee fluffy dug too which was nice of
them :LOL:

How the car sits at the moment (old front panel now cut off
though), finaly got some primer on the o/s/r 1/4, started going
round the welds with seam sealer, rally and race cars dont seem
to have this done, i think this is because the quality of any welding repairs and fabrication must be visable.

Picked up this rear axle from a Capri place in Carluke today,
it's an Atlas from a 2.0S, looks like it's been dragged out White
Cart but it's mechanicaly sound and will clean up ok, have already
cut all the un-needed brackets off it and tried it for size under the
car (and done my back in :roll: ), will need to go to Johnstones motorsport in Ayrshire to get the five link brackets welded on.

To give you an idea how wide the arse is on this car the axle is
57" wide flange to flange, the wheels are 9" wide with 235 tyres
and i'll still be using 1.1/4 spacers and the disc conversion will add
1/2 an inch :LOL:, could have easily gone for 11" wide wheels (some works Tarmac MK2 Escorts used 13x13's with a narrower axle)
but getting tyres to fit would have been a problem.

I feel inadequate in this section but in an effort not to spend £180-£300 on a new exhaust manifold for the scoot I have applied Thermosteel paste to all the wee holes in my exhaust. Marvelous stuff, sets solid and gets harder with heat. Not perfect though as it is water soluble before it cures and can be washed away over time so several coats of heat proof manifold paint will be needed. For £20 quid all in for all stuff used its got to be worth a go.

There are many reasons, let me explain..

Firstly, we have to get rid of it to be able to seam weld the panels together. Seam welding increases the strength of the joints and makes the shell last longer.

2, it cuts down on weight- around a 3kg saving on an average size shell

3, it allows us to check for cracks, this is why most racers are white or silver inside too- its much easier to spot a problem before it develops.

and finally, it makes quick repairs easier- if you have to weld up a shell during an event its much easier to do without removing a load of sealer (which burns quite nicely!)

Looking good mate. I thought you would have gone for a 3 litre axle with the LSD and bigger bearings rather than the 20lt axle??
