Excitement turned to dissapointment when I took delivery of my latest FleaBay score today. I won a '94 or '95 (not sure which) Stumpjumper FSR with a mix of M900 XTR, 1st gen 8 speed XT and LX, a Futureshock fork and a Fox Alps 4 rear shock which upon close inspection has a split in the shaft (male part of the shock assembly) about 10mm long running from the eyelet end towards the wiper seal.
I have an as-new Alps 4 with longer dimensions (body and stroke) that I can disassemble for seals etc. but am more than a little worried about sourcing a replacement shock shaft. The overall dimensions of the shock are only 135mm eye-to-eye and it's about 13 years old so a replacement shock isn't a likely prospect.
Has anyone:
* Had an experience like this?
* Got any leads/clues at to where I should look for replacement parts?
* Got a shock that might fit the application?
Cheers,
Arran.
