Hello, just sorting my 1994 Kona Hahanna out, so I thought I'd join up on here to share it with you guys and seek out help and advice! I used to ride mountain bike, but now ride a very non-retro BMX!

Hi all, just stumbled across this site and thought I would introduce myself.
First proper MTB was bought way back in 1988, I bought it whilst deployed with the Royal Navy in Singapore, it was a KHS Montana Descent. On return to the UK I started racing.
In 1990-91 (I think.... memory isnt what it was) I replaced the KHS with a Proflex 750 but found it a little fragile so quickly chopped it in for a Cannondale M800 "Beast of the East" frame and built that up with Pace RC35's and other assorted stuff. I have some pictures in the loft I think and will attempt to post em up.
I stopped racing in 94 and didn't ride again until last week when a big box containing a new Orange P7 arrived, so I am now back out on the trails and wondering why I ever gave up riding.
Used to live in Gosport BITD and used "Wheels" bike shop in Lee-On-Solent. If anyone else here used that shop and remembers me drop me a line.
Until then I will carry on drooling over the all the glorious old school pictures on here.

....nice step back in time coming back to this site - thanks to Matt Rowley for pointing me here....

used to do a fair bit of cycling in the early 90's...many old mates I wonder what happened to, some I still hear from occassionally

started off with a Marin Palisades Trail, then an Overburys Pioneer, then a Klein Attitude.....used a Fusion 0250 in between too.....

couple of peeps responsible on the way - Alex Morris for getting me involved right in the first place, Tim Davies for his very sound advice to a young entusiastic oik (me ) saying schoolwork/studies must come first as well as training techniques, to name but a few...

sadly the Klein was stolen and after that, I kinda lost interest as started driving....
recently got my hands back on a 2003 Kona Cindercone but it's nice to be riding again

I'll try and dig out some pics of the old bikes and put them up for a giggle

(now in correct topic heading)

Hello All!!

Just signed up here for a bit of retro fun!

I'm currently running what was a 1991 Cannodale SM400 which I have owned since new nearly 19 years ago. It has '91 RC35's up front and a mixture of old and new gear including XC Pro cranks, '93 or '94 XTR rear mech and a '90 or '91 Pace Nylon front hub.

The bike is still my everyday xc ride although I am planning to replace it with something more modern.

Here are a couple of pictures, one from back in the day '93 and one from an xc race in '08. As you can see a few bits have changed and the bike was re-sprayed in '96.

My sister also has a Proflex 550 which is very period.

See you round!

Hi

Hi all,

Great site - I can't believe I didn't find it earlier :)

I'm running a few old bikes - started riding in 1989 and I've never sold one so there's a fair few waiting for rebuilds. Hope to get some inspiration from everyone elses work.

Hi everyone just thought I'd introduce myself! Been lurking a long time and been into mountain biking since around 1990. I remember reading MBUK at school and dreaming about Orange Aluminium O's and Saracen Kilis.

Main Bikes I've had:

-Raleigh Mustang 24" wheel (shimano SIS) Tank
-1990? Al Carter Professional (Townsend) Shimano Exage 400LX with Biopace and awful push push shifters.
-Orange P7 1994 Nickel Plated (compact drive Deore LX). This had numerous incarnations inc V brakes and Pace RC-36. Snapped 2 pairs of F7 rigid forks riding and racing this hard!
-Specialized 1999 Stumpjumper FSR Pace PCIIs and Hope C2s
-2005 Giant NRS Carbon

2nd bikes I've had and actually thrown away into the bin as they were worthless at the time:
-Badly painted blue Specialized Hardrock steel frame with U brake under chainstay!
-Reynolds 501 lugged British Eagle MTB Green (came with 200GS gears!)

Sundry 2nd bikes I've had:
-Alpinestars Cro-Mega DX
-Black Kona steel Caldera

Current Bikes:
-2005 Giant NRS Aluminium with Rebas (mix) and C2s from above
-1998 Giant Peloton 7400 Road (RSX) 4130 DB cro-mo
-1995 Orange P7 (full original XT, cantis and Manitou Sports)

I had the full set every copy of 1990 - 1998 MBUK magazines which I remember my mum mentioning she chucked out about 5 years ago! You should have seen my face drop!

I can't believe the amount of kit I've had over the years and chucked away that would be valued and considered cool now......

Hey! Not quite a noob..only just seen this thread!

Im Law, from Redhill, Surrey.

Had my share of retroness over the years.
A trek Y3. 2 12.5" Zaskars...one a trials bike, the other a all rounder thing, a 12.5" GT Tempest, a 2000 DMR sidekick and probably more I forget!

Curretntly have a Giant ATX990 (mid build), Orange Zero trials bike and 1999 (i think) GT Palomar.

I have some modern stuff too, Spesh Big Hit dh bike, Revell300 single speed jump bike, GT Lopes 4X bike and a Wethepeople bmx.

I ride as much as I can, but new house, work etc kinda gets in the way.

If anyone is local ish, feel free to give me a yell :)

Hi,
Just found the forum and thought I'd introduce myself. I am from Salt Lake City Ut, and am thoroughly involved in road and mtn biking. I do a bit of vintage bike restoration as well. Currently I ride a IF Crown Jewel and an 09 Specialized Epic.

Been a lurker for ages and a recentish member! i got into mountain bikes back in about 1988 with the obligatory catalogue 21" special he'll grow into it Peaugot. That lasted about 6 months but by that time I was obsessed! Had countless bikes since then, one of the first Dynatech's, a Quantum, couple of Claude Butlers which were great, a few Cannondales and so on... I moved to Australia back in 99 but before that I grew up in lovely Runcorn! Used to do Delemere most Sundays and back in the early 90's we had a group of us who used to race for laughs at the likes of Leisure Lakes and Manley etc. I recently decided that i needed a bike, found a scabby Proflex on eBay and saw the potential. Nearly completed this bike and have enjoyed every minute reliving the heady days prior to everything going shit (1997-2010 - The Labour Years)

My current steed of one came like this:

Currently looks like this:

Thanks to the guys on Retrobike for keeping old metal alive, they truly were the glory days for bikes.
