£10 tip bike!

Tip bikes

Anyone had any experience of saving bikes from the tip? Last time I was down there I could see at least three frames poking out of the stuff in the metal bin, and I'd be fully up for picking some up for tinkering with for not much cash. It seems the cheapest way of keeping my compulsive buying disorder in check.

Are coucils generally ok with passing on tip bikes?

Nope.... most councils chase you away like you are vermin should you want to recycle anything that is in their skips.. some dumps will let you buy stuff but not officially, you have to chat them up :)

Freecycle is you best bet otherwise, and put ads in your local paper.. you never know what might get given away..
