Hi all,

Long time MTB'er, sport cat racer on this very machine 93-97, and recently returned to Roadie/Duathlon.

Anyway, here she is - '93 Stumpjumper M2 FS, stock except for Gripshifts/MX88 levers, Royce Ti BB, Middleburn cranks, ControlTech stem and Stif-built Hope/Mavic SUP117 wheelset.

Want to get knobblies (always used to use 1.9 Ritchey reds...) back on the old girl, then convert her over to threadless, with better suspension fork - any suggestions/tips welcomed!

Enjoy!

Cheers,
Chris

Welcome.

Nice ride, will look good with some proper tyres ;)

Are they FSX's? Nowt wrong with those, please dont put any modern forks on there! If they've lost pressure, just get a Rock Shox fork pump and stick some pressure in again.

Cheers - I've got some old (fairly perished) tyres hanging up in the garage; couple of grey 1.8 Pro Control S's, should probably have dusted them down for the pics!

Forks, I guess they're FSXs, ride them locked out all the time - perhaps I'll spruce them up and keep them ...

Chris

I guess I'm in the market for some vintage rubber ... always liked the butterscotch Tiogas ... anyone make copies?

No copies that I know of of the tyres.
Most re-release tires come black with blackwalsl with modern logos on the side.

they're Specialised Future Shox, not the FSX model though I think that had the fancier brace this year. Maybe not though.
If you want to switch to threadless headset then get hold of a RockShox MAG steerer in ahead format.

No real need to switch to threadless though.

OK, cheers - I'm gonna service and keep 'em.

While we're on my insane wishlist - I always wanted to have a diskdrive on this baby back in the day ... my mate Nick had one on his Stumpy FS and the sound was awesome ...

Chris, I see your Ely based.

Didnt do the Pro-Circuit Winter Series in the mid-90's did you at Thetford Forest?

No, afraid not - back then I was living near Aldershot - raced a lot on Ash Ranges (1/2 mile away and trained there virtually every day!), Caeser's Camp, Long Valley, Bracknell, Devil's Highway, Crowthorne, Fleet, etc.

I was trying to dig out some race pics to post - but can't find them and the kids want to get outside while the sun's around, so it's off I must go!

I've been to Thetford a few times and a mate has just splashed out on a lary, modern GT thing, so have no excuses not to get there more really (except most of the people I hang with are roadies!)

Cheers,
Chris

I'd say that was set up just about right for Ely, apart from the 'island' Ely stands on, everywhere else is flat, scientists use that area to measure against other flat things.

I should know, I was born there!

nice - I was a blue Hope guy myself
