Degreasing Judys

Just took apart the skankiest pair of Judys I have ever seen.

Sludge that stunk, powder and crushed elastomers. Shagged cartridge that leaks. Not nice.

Trying to fugure out best way to degrease them, and it came to me...Cillit Bang!

Works so much better than that orange degreaser stuff. Concerned a little as it started to fizz, so didn't leave on long... :shock:
Nice and clean now though!!

Whats best grease to use? Have some Pace fork grease, guess this will be fine?

I know someone who once used Mr Muscle oven cleaner to degrease his chainset. It removed the anodizing completely, turned from silver and black to a horrible grey :roll:

right, aside from the Altitude, which is clearly more important...

..back to the Judys. Tried media blasting the legs, and found that the paint is damn hard. The media used is very fine though, which is good as the finish on the magnesium is pretty fine. May need to chemical/sand some paint first to speed it up though.

Quick buff on the linisher and the finish is swell...

Plan to end up with a very shiny set of Judys sometinme soon..

polishing magnesium? I'd do a google search on it, would need some pucka outter laquer to stop them tarnishing (they form an appearance not unlike pumice stone if unprotected :shock:

Just checked the bushes, and one legs fubared anyway, so will have to put this on hold now.

Will see how the polished section lives in my garage..

Had a quick look at lacquers, but may not be easy either. Bit of fun.
