I dont think Halfords were doing Voodoo at that time. Its a shame they ever got the rights to sell Voodoo in the first place. For me it takes away most of the 'exotica' of the Voodoo brand. People associate Voodoo with Halfords now even though they have nothing to do with them. Shame. "Hey look at that Halfords bike"...F**k off, it a Voodoo!

Still, those of us on RB know that BiTD voodoo was a very cool brand. Designed by Joe Murray no less ;)

In the late 90's I spent many hours drooling over the Voodoo ad's in MBUK......

F off Halfords!

Rant over. Nice bike :)

Halfords or not I'll bet that rides like a dream.

They have a ruby red, possibly 853 in 17.5 for around £750.

I can't go in for car cleaning products without going for a look at it. Modern or not I like it a lot.

Sorry for the hijack

Michael

think they picked them up at the same time as kona ,same holding company
i think ,they were made in Vietnam at that point

you can see the joe murray influence in the frame shape tho

do remember mbuk saying that voodoo bikes were cursed
anyone remember that ?

I like modern Voodoo myself and often browse their website, if only all their bikes weren't deigned for silly long forks these days...

(OMG, thats my second rant in less than 20mins! Doctor doctor...)

So.. is it a '97??

Only orange ones I found on the 'net were dated '97.... admittedly didn't look that hard. .

Makes no odds to me ateotd, I only want it for the frame.. would be nice to be accurate though ;)

I quite like the original stickers so may see about having them redone.. and I'd like to try and source a new, undamaged one of these..

Just taken off the grips, controls, mechs and cables (chain is still there, too late to go hunting for my splitter or hacksaw) and, since it's going SS is it ok to have the cable guides ground off?

And how do I tell if it's US or Vietnam (or wherever) made?

Had a quick look over and can't see a Made In . . . . sticker. . . .

And. . . on poverty spec, the chainset is pretty poor (even I can see that ;) ) but is Titec that bad?

not much wrong with any of it m8

should build a nice s/s out of that

poverty spec ,its just price pointing ,hence the cheap drivetrain
you notice the titec finishing kit and that's what gets the cash out
the frame will definatley be of asian origin as will every thing else

nice find

If you're sure you'll never want to put gears on it, or ever sell it to someone who does, yes ;-) If you're going to the trouble of grinding off cable guides and refinishing, you might as well get track ends put on too and avoid chain tensioner faffage.

I hate to repeat myself from one thread to the next, but I just replied on your other thread thinking you were starting with a bare frame. Since you've already got a complete bike, I think it'd be very smart to do a quick'n'dirty SS conversion on what you've got just to make sure you like the ride. Sprocket, couple of spacers, use the mech as a tensioner - good enough to get a feel for it.

Strange how I only ever see this on the internet :? I've never seen a voodoo in halfords but there are always plenty of Gin and Tonics and these never get the " oh halfords , mutter mutter mutter , drole unoriginal comment " treatment :?

Are these people making the same comments to people with voodoos while out riding ? or is it restricted to being written on the internet , dare I say it , by people who too have never seen a voodoo in halfords ?

Doesn't matter anyway , the new voodoos are shite . What the fook are they doing with the geometry these days , silly fools seem to be making them for 200mm forks  Poor things look like they will have a negative headtube angle at full compression .

I'd keep it fairly original , old voodoos don't seem too plentiful over here and most of the parts on it are good enough for now , you can always make changes later but you can't replace those original features once they're changed .

Who does this kind of work??
I mean, what sort of company should I search for (locally)..

Yeah.. sorry.. the other thread was supposed to be general and seeking how others tackle a build - not specific to this bike

Thinking I'll start to get general parts together (like brakes, pedals, seat and headset) while I mull things over..

While I'd sort of like to re-do it as nature intended, I'm more keen to drag it, kicking and screaming, into something a tad more lush ;)
